Overview
Melanocortins are peptide hormones derived from proopiomelanocortin (POMC) that bind to five melanocortin receptors (MC1R to MC5R). Through them they take part in pigmentation, energy homeostasis and inflammation, and the MC4 receptor is studied for its part in energy balance.
Research focus
Melanocortin receptor research connects pigmentation biology and energy regulation. Selective and nonselective agonists are used to probe receptor function and downstream signaling in cell and animal models.
Catalogue products
PT-141 is the catalogue compound associated with melanocortin receptor selectivity and signaling research.
